Meet  Brooke  Smiley

Brooke Smiley is an indigenous transdisciplinary artist. Rooting in risk and love, her work moves in relationship between our connection to ourselves, one another, and nature with body based, somatic movement experiences in educational, choreographic, sculptural, and healing capacities. With a strong background in dance, earth architecture, indigenous and environmental justice, brooke makes accessible collaborative spaces of remembering, belonging, and difference through land and body based workshops, individual sessions, multisensory performance events and art exhibitions.

A Native Launchpad Artist from Western Arts Alliance 2020-2023, brooke received her MA with Distinction from Trinity Laban in London, a diploma in Superadobe Sustainable Architecture from CalEarth, a California General “B” Contractors license, and is a registered somatic movement dance educator (BMC®) specializing in re-indigenizing trauma work. She is currently training in the Somatic Experiencing SE® Practitioner program (2021-23) and was host for the 2019 BMC® conference at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where she is a lecturer in the Theater and Dance Department and member of the American Indian and Indigenous Collective Academic Council (AIIC AC).

Her workshops and individual sessions guide freedom back into the body through movement, touch, drawing and writing.  Workshops have included: Learning to Speak: Healing Resources for the Voice, The Movement of Homeostasis, Methods for Resolving the Moro Reflex in the growing adult body, Bones, Blood, and Heart, Active Consent: How to Not Assume, Additional Workshops in individual systems: basic neurocellular patterns, endocrine system, primitive reflexes, muscular and skeletal systems, ligaments and fascia, organs, and fluids.
